Maximum driving pleasure for xDrive-models: KW Coilovers for BMW 5-series and 6-series with all-wheel drive

In addition to the BMW SUV X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6, the BMW xDrive or all-wheel drive system is optionally available for numerous other BMW models such as 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-series. Also the suspension manufacturer KW successfully extends its range of stainless steel coilovers for BMW 1-, 2-, 3-, 5-series and Co. with four-wheel drive. The KW Variant 3 coilover suspension that is independently adjustable in compression and rebound damping is already available for the latest generation of BMW 5-series Sedan (F10) and 5-series Touring (F11) as well as the BMW 6-series Convertible (F12) and 6-series Coupé (F13). For the xDrive versions of BMW 5-series and 6-series the KW Variant 3 allows a tested lowering of up to 55 mm. Currently, KW is the first manufacturer worldwide that offers a coilover kit made of stainless steel for the xDrive versions of the BMW 5- and 6-series.

With KW Variant 3 coilovers for the xDrive versions of the BMW 5- and 6-series (F10-, F11-, F12- and F13- models), the continuous lowering is made directly on the stainless steel strut via the dirt-resistant trapezoid thread. The xDrive models can be lowered continuously at the front axle within the tested adjustment range of 25 to 55 mm. The adjustment at the rear axle is made at the height-adjustment between 20 to 50 mm. „We at KW are always developing car-specific suspension applications,” said KW Product Manager Johannes Wacker. These need a comprehensive strut construction with cast components for the KW coilover suspensions on the xDrive versions of the BMW 5- and 6-series F-models. „Compared to the 5- and 6-series models with rear-wheel drive, we had to develop a new McPherson strut for the xDrive front axle geometry. That´s why KW is currently the only manufacturer that offers a coilover suspension for the all-wheel or xDrive 5- and 6-series of the BMW F-model generation.”

Advantage: Adjustable KW damping technology

„With KW Variant 3 coilovers, drivers get a suspension kit with an independent damper adjustment in compression and rebound damping to perfectly adapt their BMW 5- or 6-series to their respective individual driving demand”, said Johannes Wacker of KW. If for example the wheel / tire combinations that are approved by BMW have been changed to bigger complete wheels, this can be addressed with the adjustable rebound. Due to an integrated rebound adjustment with 16 exact clicks, the KW Variant 3 coilover suspension allows to significantly influence on the handling and comfort of the 5-series and 6-series with BMW xDrive. In addition, the compression can independently be adjusted with twelve clicks. This for example can reduce the potential rolling motions of the body. „In a certain way, our Variant 3 is racing technology for the road”, Johannes Wacker describes the setup possibilities of the KW coilover kit. „The individual damping force adjustment in compression and rebound is kind of like our racing damper technology.”

For example, all BMW Z4 GT3 and Porsche 911 GT3 R race cars are homologated with racing suspensions from the KW Competition program and also the exclusive car manufacturers BMW Alpina and the BMW M GmbH work closely together with KW automotive for selected special models. „A BMW xDrive equipped with a KW Variant 3 coilover suspension can be driven more direct and secure at the limit.”
